How can holistic treatment
support Lyme Disease?

In my opinion, 90% of people who come to me for Lyme treatment have two things in common, they have a compromised immune system due to toxicity, and they have suffered emotional trauma that is very often depressing their immune systems and making them susceptible to Lyme. A holistic approach addresses both of these aspects. Homeopathy also has a wide range of remedies that will help you process and overcome physical symptoms as well as emotional traumas.

Each person's unique situation will be evaluated and the suggested holistic treatment will be developed after an initial consultation. This first consultation includes a lengthy history that is completed by the client beforehand. If you have questions about the process I have tried to answer them on the services page.

Homeopathic method

  1. Classical homeopathy can improve the constitution and vitality as well as to address any previous physical or emotional trauma. This will help a person to recover from what may be depressing their immune system and increasing their susceptibility to Lyme infection.
  2. Naturopathic and homeopathic suggestions to improve and strengthen a compromised immune system and to detoxify the body (including the individual organs such as the liver when appropriate). Toxicity can be a major reason for why Lyme and various co-infections bypass the natural immune system leading to symptoms.
  3. Naturopathic and homeopathic protocols can also help to restore damaged systems such as the neurological system, digestive system or the collagen tissues. It is important to determine where the infected area is and specifically support these areas.

These methods are safe to use collaboratively with most medical treatments and medications.

Note: I cannot provide testing or diagnosis. Please consult a physician or contact a private testing company. Keep in mind that accuracy rates from tests can be low, around 60%, and it is important to find a professional who has experience in Lyme for proper diagnosis.

However, as a holistic practitioner and homeopath I will always work with a person who has the 'feeling' that something is off or who does not feel well, even if their test results are negative.

What is Lyme?

Lyme disease or Lyme borreliosis took its name from the town of Lyme in Connecticut and was initially called Lyme arthritis until it was discovered to be an infectious disease caused by one of the more than 20 forms of bacteria of the Borrelia type. Borrelia burgdorferi is mostly transmitted by ticks and is associated with Lyme. This bacteria can spread throughout the body and has been found in the skin, heart, joints, peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system.

Many of the signs and symptoms of Lyme disease that each individual expresses are related to where the infection is located in their body. If left untreated the bacteria may persist for months or even years, despite the production of antibodies by the immune system. This is known as Chronic Lyme. Even after common treatments such as antibiotics, some people continue to have symptoms associated with Lyme.

If you have a tick bite?
If you discover the tick bite follow the most recent recommendations for removing the tick as soon as possible. (This video shows a safe method).

Save the tick by placing it in a covered jar (it can be preserved with either 180 proof vodka, grain alcohol or brandy) and label with the date, person's name and where it was found on the body. The tick may be kept or sent to a lab for testing.
Natural support for Lyme disease

Symptoms will vary and will be different depending on the duration of the infection. Some symptoms might come and go, or might persist. The key approach of homeopathy is to explore the symptoms that arise in each individual and to improve the vitality and immune response of the person. The main indicator we follow is that the person expresses that they do not feel healthy or well.

Usual key symptoms
  • Extreme fatigue that is chronic
  • Mental confusion, lack of concentration or focus, memory problems
  • General aches and pains that are unusual
Other symptoms might include:
  • skin rash
  • headache
  • fever or chills
  • fatigue
  • spasms or weakness
  • numbness or tingling
  • swollen lymph nodes
  • dizziness
  • abnormal heartbeat
  • muscle and joint pain
  • paralysis of body parts
  • mental confusion or inability to think clearly (brain fog)
  • nervous system disorders
 Co-infections of Lyme can include:
  • Mycoplasma
  • Babesia
  • Bartonella - may infect the amygdala leading to powerful emotions or even rage and therefore may be mistaken as schizophrenia or other mental disorders.
  • Chlamydia - also found in the mucous membrane systems, lungs or the brain.
  • Ehrlichia
  • Anaplasma phagocytophilum
  • Bacterial infections
  • Fungal infections
  • Parasite infections
  • Viral infections

Co-infections occur when a tick bite transmits multiple infectious organisms. The co-infections change from region to region. It is more and more common to have multiple infections along with Lyme making it difficult to diagnose medically.

Lyme mimics other disease states
If Lyme reaches the neurological system it may cause serious damage to the nerves and might be mistaken for other diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Autism, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes and Lou Gerhig's among others. With homeopathy the specific diagnosis does not change the process or the potential positive outcome.
